Walking notes/Notatki ze spaceru/Virtual Canvas/Krupa Gallery/ 2021

Recalling the slow pace of a walk – aimless wandering, deliberate, paying attention to the surroundings. Acute senses are ready for exploration. The new is slowly coming into sight, step by step. It is hidden between tree branches, in the bends of rocks, on a well-trodden path.

A walk to the river.
A walk to the studio.
A walk as a journey.

Walking frees your thoughts.

It put us in sync with nature.
Concentration ensues – on image, sound, movement.
Walking on a well-trodden path – while being aware of following in someone’s footsteps.
Discovering chronological layers.
Making your way through bushes and thickets.
Roaming freely, getting lost.

“Walking is a matter of reality” (Frederic Gros, “A Philosophy of Walking”)

Taking steps rhythmically moves us forward, the landscape changes slowly. Tree after tree, footstep after footstep. Sometimes the destination doesn’t matter. Travelling is about gaining knowledge. The slower the better. The more details you remember, the richer your collection of memories. We look at a sight and each time we notice a new detail, we close our eyes and the sound takes us to a different place. It is possible to recall pictures and sounds an infinite number of times, thinking about them both separately and together.

The project by Magda and Ludomir Franczak is the result of longing for free movement. Its structure is similar to that of a walk: the work changes over time and its constituent parts gradually emerge. Using sound and image, the artists invite the viewer to follow the successive stages of the journey and observe the changes that take place in the (virtual) landscape.
