Folium
Stramonii is
a piece of furniture used for secret pharmaceutical practices. It is
made from an object found in the abandoned building, which had been
disassembled and then reassembled anew to reveal its secret. Its most
important part – the drawers – triggers associations with closure
and hints at changes that the body undergoes during illness. The
drawers are a metaphor for segregating the sensations that make up
the overall experience, but also for segregating the semi-finished
products that make up the drug. Franczak created a hybrid piece of
furniture by distorting the original object; the unnaturally
elongated drawers cease to perform their role of keepers of a
carefully hidden secret.
